Abstract
This paper presents a fast and efficient algorithm to homogeneously spread distortions generated by the conversion of paper maps to digital information. These distortions occur at the block borders as a result of junction adjustment, edge matching, and line adjustment. The sources of data are vectorized maps from adjacent scanned sheets, not necessarily of the same scale or with the same accuracy, which will be part of a future geographical information system (GIS) database. The algorithm has four stages, and resembles the spreading of soap bubbles limited by a polygonal ring changing its shape and size. An example illustrating the proposed procedure is given.
