Detection and Localization of Geometrical Movements

Publication: Journal of Surveying Engineering
Volume 111, Issue 2

Abstract

For the geometric analysis of deformations in survey control networks, a program system has been developed and favorably applied to detect deformations, i.e., of dams, hang slides, buildings, or earthquake faults. The system allows for one‐, two‐, or three‐dimensional analysis. The basic mathematical theory of deformation analysis is summarized, and its implementation into a modular program system is demonstrated. The analysis is characterized by the application of statistical tests to estimable quantities. The datum definition and the change of datum applying S‐transformations play an important role. It is shown how those strategies have been included in a powerful program system. Applications with real and simulated deformation models demonstrate the power and the efficiency of the underlying theoretical concept.
