Inelastic Moment Redistribution for Bridges

Abstract
A simplified procedure is presented for redistributing moments caused by inelastic hinge rotations that accompany shakedown of continuous bridge girders under repeated live loadings. This inelastic moment redistribution procedure (IMR) is very similar to that of elastic moment distribution except that inelastic hinges, not girder joints, are initially held locked and then cyclically unlocked until convergence to shakedown occurs. Residual deformations due to shakedown are computed.
