Dynamic Characteristics of Tainter Gates and Their Optimization
Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering

Abstract
On the basis of structural‐feature analysis of hydraulic tainter gates and experimental modal analysis, this paper presents a principle on which calculations for dynamic‐characteristic optimization are performed using a method of sensitivity analysis. A practical engineering problem is dealt with herein, furnishing computation for optimization of the dynamic characteristics of tainter gates. Some inherent structural disadvantages of tainter gates are pointed out that lead to their inadaptability to dynamic requirements.
