Bridge Design and the “Bridge Aesthetics Bibliograph”

Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 115, Issue 4

Abstract

The recently compiled “Bridge Aesthetics Bibliography” (from the Transportation Research Board) is described using quotes and illustrations from some of the references. It is suggested that a study of the literature of bridge aesthetics and a consideration of the advice, opinions, and illustrations contained therein will help to ensure that all four major aspects of design—function, safety, economy, and aesthetics—will be considered and optimized.
