Outrigger‐Braced Coupled Shear Walls

Publication: Journal of Structural Engineering
Volume 110, Issue 12

Abstract

An investigation is made of the feasibility of using a top outrigger to stiffen a pair of coupled shear walls. Based on the continuous connecting medium, a closed solution to the problem is reached. The solution presented also includes the analysis of coupled shear walls stiffened by a top beam. A numerical example is given to indicate the efficiency of the top stiffening outrigger in reducing the lateral deflections in the pair of coupled shear walls.
