Reliability of Linear Viscoelastic Systems Excited by a Gaussian Process

Publication: Journal of Engineering Mechanics
Volume 124, Issue 3

Abstract

The reliability of linear viscoelastic systems, forced by a stationary Gaussian random excitation, is investigated. The first-passage problem is studied under both the Poisson approximation and the integral equation method. It is observed that the viscoelasticity has damping effect and leads to more reliable systems.
