postbuckling of orthotropic rectangular Plates in Biaxial Compression

Publication: Journal of Engineering Mechanics
Volume 117, Issue 5

Abstract

The buckling and postbuckling behavior of orthotopic composite rectangular plates with simply supported edges in biaxial compression are investigated using a deflection‐type perturbation technique. Using the technique, the nonlinear generalized von Kármán equations of orthotropic plates are solved. The effects of geometrical imperfections are considered in the research. It is of interest that the behaviors of orthotropic and isotropic plates are markedly different from each other during buckling and postbuckling.
