Diffusion in Gas under Constant Pressure Drop

Publication: Journal of Engineering Mechanics
Volume 115, Issue 9

Abstract

The problem of convective diffusion in a compressible fluid‐perfect gas is considered. The solution is found for a one‐dimensional isothermal case where it is assumed that a constant pressure gradient exists. Two illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the time and spatial behavior of particle concentration in a long tube attached to reservoirs at both ends. The predicted results show that some relatively high critical value of pollution or charge may be obtained from very small initial values of particle concentration.
