Size-Resolved Quantification of Nonviable Indoor Aeroallergens: a Review

Abstract

A review of recent research conducted on the size distributions of indoor nonviable airborne allergens is presented here. An overview is provided on immunological techniques, such as the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and radioimmunoassay (RIA), which have been successfully used for the quantification of specific nonviable aeroallergens in indoor environments. Studies of mite and cat aeroallergens containing relevant size distribution information are analyzed and interpreted from an aerosol science perspective. Recommendations for future research are also presented.
