Editor’s Note

A fiftieth anniversary is an important milestone for many undertakings, including the publication of an archival journal. It is appropriate to have a change of pace and reflect on our beginnings. And it is wise to take stock of things that have changed and things that have not. We will use this special issue to do both of these things and I hope our readers will enjoy this special opportunity.

Very few good things happen by accident; they usually are the result of imagination, hard work, and persistence and this diamond jubilee issue is no exception to this rule. I express my thanks to the authors for the content and the reviewers for their suggestions for improvement. Many of these people have made important contributions to the inception and growth of this journal. Particular thanks go to our guest editor, Cliff Schexnayder, who persued this task with his usual enthusiasm and good humor. Please join me in thanking all these contributors for this special effort.
