Abstract
A description of two methods using laser equipment to monitor dam movements is given. The first method describes the use of a laser alinement instrument to detect movement of selected points preferably within galleries of concrete dams or other areas where atmospheric refraction changes are very small. The second method describes a trilateration technique using laser electronic distance measuring equipment, and a modeling procedure that greatly reduces the effects of dynamic atmospheric refraction on the accuracy of movement determination.
