Transporting Solid Particles in Smooth Pipelines
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 105, Issue 4
Abstract
In homogenous suspensions of solid particles in a fluid flow, the von Karman constant is always less than that of the pure fluid alone and decreases as the solid concentration increases. The turbulent boundary layer factor increases as the solid concentration increases. When the von Karman constant and the turbulent boundary layer factor are known, the friction loss of the two-phase homogenous suspension flow can be predicted in any size of pipe. In heterogeneous flow, Durand's empirical equation was analyzed.
