Airfield Pavement Evaluation—The Airline View
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 104, Issue 5
Abstract
Plate bearing tests to evaluate airfield pavements may close airfield operating surfaces for extended periods, causing costly air traffic delays. Nondestructive techniques for pavement testing are being developed and are seen as producing more uniform results without constricting airport operations. Domestic revenue passenger miles are predicted to triple by the year 2,000 while very little new airport development is predicted. The minimization of air traffic delays through all causes including pavement evaluation becomes of increasing importance.
