Noise and Vibration Control in New Rapid Transit
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 98, Issue 4
Abstract
Excessive vibration and noise may have adverse effects on the acceptance by the community of new transit networks and can affect the comfort and ridership of passengers who use the vehicles. To help in evaluating the dynamic characteristics of transit systems, noise and vibration levels measured during the operation of more traditional transportation modes are summarized. Recommended design criteria established for operating systems are presented to aid the transportation designer in the development of criteria that satisfy local conditions. In addition, design strategies that may be used to limit the development of noise and vibration in transit system components are analyzed and shown.
