Impedance Minimization Travel Choice Process
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 98, Issue 2
Abstract
A general theory of the mode choice-travel demand process is given. The concept of mode choice may be broadened to one of travel choice wherein a traveler's choice of mode, destination, route and whether or not to travel may be simultaneously treated. A series of utility curves is developed to illustrate this process and to indicate the effects of transportation variables and the travelers value system upon his choices. A model based upon this structure is described which deals with any number of modes. The effects of certain parameters on the model are also described.
