The Modern Way to Operate Suburban Rail Service
Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 96, Issue 4
Abstract
It is widely felt among transportation experts that rail transit can serve its full potential role for the urban community only if it is modern, fast, comfortable, attractive, and efficient. In 1969 the only suburban rail service in America that qualifies as modern in these terms was placed in service between Philadelphia and Lindenwold, NJ. The features of this new line are analyzed and contrasted with corresponding methods which are typical for all other current suburban rail operations.
