Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 96, Issue 3
Abstract
The airport, as an integral part of the transportation system of a city, must meet the combined transport demands of passengers, employees and industries to fulfill its function as the transfer facility from ground transport to air transport. Terminal units, satellites, which offer favorable conditions for serving aircraft passengers and visitors are developed and integrated with an external, freeway, railroad, and an internal, parking, moving sidewalk, elevated monorail, transportation system. The airport Hamburg-Kaltenkirchen is designed to handle increasing numbers of passengers in a step-by-step development program and to meet the requirements of the new generation of jet aircraft (B 747, SST) as well as V/STOL short range aircraft.
