Computer Simulation of Transit Operation and Costs

Publication: Transportation Engineering Journal of ASCE
Volume 95, Issue 1

Abstract

The program generates transit system operating statistics, for the projected economic life of any proposed rapid transit system, using computer simulation methods. Arbitrary annual changes in patronage, daily load cycles, peak capacity requirements, and standards of service can be introduced, generally along the lines of predicted changes consequent to the urban planning of the affected communities. The simulated operating statistics are translated into annual income statements, debt service and cash flow analyses. Provisions are made for present worth evaluations of alternative system proposals.
