Studies for the Lower Monumental Power Plant

Publication: Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers
Volume 127, Issue 3

Abstract

The economic development of water resources for power, navigation, flood control, and other beneficial uses requires the application of both a high degree of technical knowledge and sound judgment in many fields of engineering. The planning and design of hydroelectric power plants provide an excellent example of professional accomplishment toward that end. Considering that the cost of power facilities in many major hydroelectric projects ranges from $50,000,000 to $200,000,000 or more, it is evident that millions of dollars may be at stake in achieving an economic balance within the basic design elements of power features alone.
