Abstract
The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). Committee on Evaluation of Engineering Education was appointed in May, 1952, following discussion by Engineers' Council for Profcssic, nal Development (ECPD) of the need for a thorough restudy of the objectives of engineering education. The commmittee was charged to determine what changes are needed in engineering education (1) for it to keep pace with the rapid advances that are occurring in science and (2) to provide the next generation with engineering leaders having the capacity to apply new scientific discoveries in a creative manner. The final report covers the committee's studies over a three-year period during which more than two hundred educational reports from institutional commit: tees on engineering education, from engineering societies, from industrial organaizations, and from individuals were studied. This resume is intended to give civil engineers a better insight into the problems of engineering education. Is hoped that many practicing engineers will read the full text of the report.
