Abstract
Quantitative methods for correcting the results of the laboratory consolidation test for the effects of sample disturbance are presented. These methods are developed by attempting to answer several questions: What is the basic laboratory behavior and field behavior of a consolidating clay? How is this behavior modified by sample disturbance? What is the pattern of such modifications? These patterns are used as a basis for estimating, by extrapolation, the completely undisturbed conditions. Finally, an example of the results obtained by the use of the suggested methods is presented.
