Abstract
Flow tests were made at relatively great Reynolds numbers in three coated-steel penstocks at San Gabriel Dam in California. The resulting friction factors seem to extend the confirmation of the smooth-pipe curve of J. Nikuradse and Theodor von Kármán, Hon. M. ASCE, to Reynolds numbers as great as 3.8 X 107. Additional measurements were made of velocity distribution in one penstock, and the results are compared with the velocity-distribution equations of L. Prandtl and Mr. von Kármán.
