The Granby Pumping Plant: A Symposium: Construction

Abstract
Approximately four construction seasons were required for the excavation and erection of the Granby Pumping Plant and its appurtenant conduits and switchyard. A joint-venture group built the plant. The principal problems included excavation in wet siltstone, curing of concrete at unusually low temperatures, and special precautions to avoid seepage through construction joints. A somewhat novel use of native logs-for scaffolding to support forms-is described. The paper also describes a few special adaptations of the designs that were necessary under unexpected conditions.
