Abstract
In the analysis of highly indeterminate frame structures, the task of setting up and solving the elastic equations becomes time-consuming. Several methods have been developed by which the work may be shortened considerably. Of these, among the classical methods, perhaps that of group loading is the best and most comprehensive method. The paper sets forth, in detail, the theory of this method in analytical form. Examples in algebraic form, followed by illustrative numerical computations, are used to make clear the engineering application of the theory. A still further reduction in the number of elastic equations is effected by the choice of a statically indeterminate primary structure. A numerical application of this is also included.
