The Delaware Memorial Bridge: A Symposium: Design Problems

Abstract
The Delaware Memorial Bridge, at the southern end of the New Jersey Turnpike, is 10,756 ft long, including a major suspension span with girder and truss approaches. Specifications governing the design of the bridge elements are derived and discussed in this paper.Subsurface conditions governing pier design are described, and settlement problems that required solution are introduced. The authors stress the need for extensive research in suspension bridge design to foster economy and safety in construction.
