Uplift in Masonry Dams: Final Report of the Subcommittee on Uplift in Masonry Dams of the Committee on Masonry Dams of the Power Division, 1951

Herewith is submitted a report by the Subcommittee on Uplift in Masonry Dams. The Subcommittee has been functioning for several years under an. instruction “to study the possibility of clarifying the uplift problem.” The available information has been assembled and studied. The data applicable to the question of foundation uplift are held to be adequate to warrant a report on this phase. There are numerous unanswered questions and a scarcity of field data as to uplift effects in the concrete of the dam structure, and prospects for obtaining such information in the near future are not very promising. Hence, this report is presented as a statement on foundation uplift. Since the dimensions of a dam depend on the assumptions for foundation uplift, these are of primary importance.
