Abstract
An improved method of solving the classical three-point problem, particularly adapted to orientation or location in a previously co-ordinated field, and to calculation by machine instead of by logarithms, is offered in this paper. The probable normal and position errors due to errors of observation are evaluated to measure the precision of the location and, in case more than three points are observed, to aid in the se lection of the best three -point se t or to weight the adjustment of all sets. A graphical adjustment of the "four-or more-point" problem is outlined and a practical problem is solved to illustrate the use of the formulas .
