Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze mathematically the distribution of shearing stress along the length of longitudinal fillet welds used for connecting structural members. The analysis will be made only for welds that are continuous over the entire length of a lap-joint. In an approximate manner, however, it will apply also to intermittent welds. It can also be used to show the approximate distribution of shear in a line of rivets, provided the deformation or slip of each rivet is assumed to be proportional to its shear.
