Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the phenomenon of rainfall penetration on valley floors in semi-arid areas and a discussion of methods for the quantitative determination of the resulting water supply, with special reference to conditions in Southern California. The following specific examples are discussed: 1.-Determinatioh of rainfall penetration from soil moisture tests and from springs in the Murrietta-Temecula Area. 2.-Determination of penetration on valley floors by comparison with mountain run-off in San Bernardino Valley. 3.-Determination of penetration from rainfall and irrigation rise of water in test wells in Pauba Valley.
