Abstract

This paper has for its purpose a consideration of the effect of the errors in combination which attend the work of transit traversing and stadia leveling. It indicates a method whereby specifications for each operation in the field work may be prepared, so that the survey as a whole may be most economically and expeditiously executed. The .theory of errors has been adequately developed elsewhere, but for the most part, it has been applied to measures of precision, such as the probable error, and others, and to the adjustment of observations by the method of least squares.
