Abstract
The structure on the Yuba River which has been commonly known as "The Barrier" was one of those forming the system of works to restrain the movement of hydraulic mining debris down the Yuba and into the Feather and Sacramento Rivers. Some portions of this system are now in operation, and others are in course of construction. A general description of the project and of its several constituent parts, including details of construction and photographs, may be found in a paper, entitled "The Control of Hydraulic Mining in California by the Federal Government," by William W. Harts, M. Am. Soc. C. E., Major, Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army. The reader is referred to this paper for a history of the experiments leading up to the design and construction of this barrier.
