Abstract
The highway in upper Manhattan which was known as King's Bridge Road in Washington's time was the only connection by land from New York City to Albany and Boston. Going north from Fort Washington, its location is easily surmised to-day, winding along the base of the foot-hills to the present Ship Canal, thence branching to the right, over Farmer's Bridge (built in 1759), and then to the left and over King's Bridge (built in 1693), to Westchester County, crossing the tidal stream early named Spuyten Duyvil Creek.
