Recommendations for use of SI Units in Hydraulics
Publication: Journal of the Hydraulics Division
Volume 106, Issue 12
Abstract
Conversion to the International System of Units (SI) in the United States is voluntary, and information on recommened units and standard usage is needed to facilitate the transition. SI units include base units, supplementary units, and derived units, and there are accepted prefixes and symbols to inidicate multiples and submultiples of units. While international agreement covers rules for uniform usage of SI terms, differences in language result in differences in writing style. Tables for conversion of units frequently used in water resources practic, and commonly-used equivalent units in water resources, are provided.
