Abstract

A linear programming model is developed for the optimal determination of unit hydrographs. The model determines the best unit hydrograph by minimizing the sum of deviation between observed and calculated runoff hydrographs. The principles of linearity and superposition of unit hydrograph theory are the basis of the model. Several multiperiod rainfall events can be considered simultaneously for the optimal unit hydrograph determination. The model is tested using both hypothetical and actual rainfall events.
