Efficient Simulation of Nonlinear Steady Flow

Abstract
Numerical simulation of steady flow can require considerable computation. However, unique features of finite element and finite difference methods can be exploited which lead to an efficient solution procedure. Although the resulting technique is fundamentally a time-stepping method, it achieves convergence within only a few steps. The considerable computational advantages of the method are obtained, moreover, without sacrificing the rigor of the governing equations, which are solved in their full nonlinear form. The technique is developed specifically for the vertically integrated Navier-Stokes equations. It is applied to simulate steady river flow.
