Abstract

Many hydraulic engineering problems involve the computation of the propagation of flood waves in open channels. The complexity inherent in the calculations based on the solution of the full equations has led to the development of approximate methods, which have become especially popular among hydrologists. From the point of view of the application, much interest is focused on their calibration, i.e. on the determination of the model parameters. The scope of this note is to communicate the writer.s experience with this problem, especially with respect to the design of open channels.
