Abstract

The accuracy of any water quality model is sensitive to the accuracy of the thermal model upon which it must depend. Historically, it has been argued that the exchange of energy between water and a stream or reservoir bed is small enough to be neglected in a temperature model. This conclusion was originally reached when considering the energy budget of lakes and reservoirs.
