Historical Note on the Hydrologic Cycle

Abstract

Theophrastus is generally credited as being the first man to have had a correct understanding of the hydrologic cycle. However, a passage in Chandogya, one of the principal Upanishads, ancient sacred texts of the Hindus, suggests that at least an aspect of the hydrologic cycle must have been known to the ancient Hindus.
