Abstract
The characteristics of the velocity and pressure fields of a round turbulent jet impinging onto a plate have been studied. Previous studies covered impingement heights that placed the plate in the fully developed flow region of the jet. The present study covered impingement heights between 0 and 20 nozzle radii. Axial and radial variations of velocity and static pressure were determined. Turbulence intensities along the center line within the impingement zone are presented. The energy balance of the mean flow is achieved pointwise along the jet axis within the impingement zone for two different impingement heights.
