Abstract
A mathematical method and a Galerkin finite element formulation are presented for steady two-regime flow toward wells in confined and unconfined aquifers. The model is verified by comparing the finite element solutions of typical cases with pumping test results obtained from laboratory experiments. A new type curve method for determining the in-situ hydraulic characteristics of a selected aquifer material is described. It is shown that the method leads to good agreement between the theory and experiments and that the in-situ values may be quite different from the corresponding values obtained from permeability tests on a sample of the aquifer.
