Numerical Solution of Multiphase Well Flow
Publication: Journal of the Hydraulics Division
Volume 99, Issue 11
Abstract
A method is presented for numerically solving immiscible multiphase well flow considering three compressible fluids, two liquids, and one gas, and assuming isothermal conditions. Capillary and dissolution of gas in liquid are considered in the proposed mathematical model. Numerical difficulties arising from the nonlinearity of the equations and from the finite differencing in cylindrical coordinates are easily dealt with by using a modified Newton method to solve the fully implicit finite difference equations. Coning problems in the petroleum industry and unconfined flow problems in hydrology are typical applications.
