Abstract

The Euler equations of a two-layer fluid are solved using an implicit difference scheme for one-dimensional flow. The scheme has second order accuracy and is linearly nondissipative; all of its error is phase error. Data are presented for the scheme in a physically realistic way, to avoid nonlinear instabilities, and a control procedure for this purpose is described. The scheme is well behaved and reasonably fast in operation. It cannot, however, accommodate hydraulic jumps.
