Abstract
Nearly all our information on turbulent boundary-layer flow is for the case of rather low levels of turbulence in the free stream outside the layer. Little is known of the effect of stream turbulence on the development of the turbulent layer and calculations are thus based on the relations established for low levels of turbulence. This technical note offers definite evidence that turbulence affects the turbulent layer and quantifies this for the flat-plate case.
