Abstract

The unsteady flow equations, describing the problem of routing storm water through storm drainage systems with lateral inflow, solved by the method of characteristics on digital computers. The storm drain consists of a single continuous line of circular channel with constant slope. The main inflow to the drain is at the upstream end. The lateral inflow comes through a circular conduit at the junction box being normal to the direction of the main drain. The outflow is a free fall at the downstream. A good agreement is found in comparing computed hydrographs and observed hydrographs in the experiment at various locations along the drain.
