Validity of Two-Point Method of Velocity Sampling

Publication: Journal of the Hydraulics Division
Volume 96, Issue 10

Abstract

The two-point method is widely used and an accurate means of sampling the vertical velocity profile in a stream channel. Although a general mathematical proof of the applicability of this technique appears impossible, it is possible to determine the absolute limits of accuracy and to analyze certain other characteristics of the method. The analysis of the validity of this technique is shown herein.
