Space Correlations in Round Turbulent Jet
Publication: Journal of the Hydraulics Division
Volume 95, Issue 3
Abstract
Turbulence measurements were conducted in the mixing region of a turbulent round jet having a 0.2 ft diam and an efflux velocity ranging from 35 to 50 fps. All three components of the turbulent velocity vector have been determined throughout the flow. The results indicate that the ratios of the radial and tangential velocity components to the axial one vary from a high of 0.8 at the edge of the potential core to a low of 0.4 at the outer edge of the jet. The axial, radial, and tangential scales of turbulence have been determined by using special hot-wire probes. The tangential scale appears to be the smallest. A physical description of the eddy structure is suggested by considering the three vorticity components of the flow.
