Abstract
A procedure for an analytic determination of sand discharge in streams is presented especially adaptable to computer programming, requiring only a modicum of input or given data from which the sand discharge fractions are both separately and in combination completely described quantitatively and in distribution from bed to water surface. It has been tested by application and comparison with observed data in all types of rivers, small to large, under a full range of flow conditions, and to model flume experiments conducted under widely varying flow conditions with bed sands varying widely in size and size distribution. It is considered that the results by this procedure are sufficiently accurate to warrant its use in many types of studies involving quantitative sand transport, design of channels, channel regulation works, and the assessment of probable effects of channel modifications.
