Abstract

Criteria are established for the efficiency of the forced hydraulic jump and for two types of sill in contributing to the energy dissipation in sill-controlled open-channel flow transitions. The energy losses over the transition length are determined, and the expressions for efficiencies are formulated. The stability of the jump is shown to be related to the efficiency of the jump. The results are applicable to the evaluation of energy losses in hydraulic-jump stilling basins.
