Abstract
Groundwater pumped from aquifers amounted to more than 24 billion gal in 1955; problems arising through constantly increasing withdrawals include: extensive sea water encroachment, marked depletion of storage, industrial contamination, and rises in water temperatures; possible remedies are discussed.
